Angina is chest pain or discomfort that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive sufficient oxygen-rich blood. It is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying heart problem, usually coronary heart disease. This usually happens because one or more of the coronary arteries is narrowed or blocked.
